Aquamate Water Tank Donation ZambiaWorld Vision recently shipped four galvanized water tanks donated by Aquamate to four different communities in Southern Zambia.  Aquamate’s donation of these 12,000 gallon metal water tanks will help to improve the availability of basic toilets, clean water and good hygiene standards within these communities.

TURNING ON THE TAP TO CLEAN WATER: AQUAMATE AND WORLD VISION

Aquamate share World Vision’s belief that every child deserves clean water. Their community-based approach gives them deep roots in the community, while their more than 60-year history gives them the longevity and experience to provide holistic long-lasting change for vulnerable communities around the world.

What is WASH?

WASH stands for Water, Sanitation and Hygiene. Poor sanitation, unsafe water and unhygienic practices cause millions of children and adults in the developing world to suffer needlessly from disease. Water- and sanitation-related disease, despite being preventable, remains one of the most significant child health problems worldwide. WASH programming involves implementing programs that increase access to clean water, basic toilets and good hygiene practices. Good hygiene practices are essential for the survival and development of children and the health of adults.

Did you know?

2.3 billion people don’t have access to adequate sanitation, which is one third of the world’s population.

World Vision and WASH

World Vision has been working in water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) for more than 50 years, starting in the 1960s primarily with small water projects in individual communities. They gained significant experience in the subsequent decades, including a significant scale-up through the West Africa Water Initiative – a large public-private partnership, where World Vision served as the lead non-governmental organisation. In 2010, World Vision made a strategic decision to scale up its investment in WASH, making an increased, targeted investment in WASH in 12 countries with high WASH need – ten in Africa, one in Latin America, and one in Asia. World Vision and their partners, including Aquamate are committed to reaching one new person every 10 seconds with clean water and sanitation by 2020, and then continue at that pace so they reach everyone everywhere by 2030.

AQUAMATE IN ZAMBIA

World Vision is initiating a pilot shipment of Aquamate water tanks in four different communities in Southern Zambia. Our recent commitment to donate 4 x 12,000 Gallon tanks is a perfect fit for the Zambia Water, Sanitation and Hygiene project.

Across four communities:

  • 546,962 people will be reached by 2018
  • 312,650 children will be reached by 2018
  • 157 health and education facilities will implement a drinkable water source on premises

The goals of the project is to increase access to sustainable and safe water supply for poor and vulnerable communities and school children. Through partnering with World Vision, Aquamate has helped these communities to turn on the tap to good health, by helping to prevent unnecessary communicable disease. Aquamate are proud to play a role in solving the global water and sanitation crisis. That’s not only good for business, but it’s good for the earth.

Aquamate’s donations focus on the most vulnerable, rural populations with the greatest disease burden.
