What components are included with each tank?

Each one of Aquamate’s metal water tanks consist of four main components:

  • Metal tank shell
  • Flexible internal liner
  • Domed tank roof
  • Valves and accessories

Aquamate’s metal shells have a galvanized coating over steel to provide long term protection against corrosion. All of our shells use a lightweight corrugated profile, which contains all  of the required strength without the excess cost of thick steel panels.

The flexible liner inside the tank is resistant to chemicals, ultraviolet light and mechanical damage.

The domed metal roof stops sunlight (UV), dirt and debris from contaminating the water you’ve collected.

All of Aquamate’s tanks come with a range of additional features for rainwater harvesting; outlets and valves for connecting the tank to your system, 20″ leaf basket with light guard for connecting your down pipes, access hatches and level gauges. You can read more about the details of our metal water tanks  on the Water Tanks page of our website.

What type of liner does Aquamate use for their tanks?

Aquamate uses a  flexible polyethylene material for each of its water tank liners. Polyethylene is naturally flexible, unlike PVC materials which can become brittle over time. We use a solid lining material, as opposed to a coated mesh, because the tank shell resists all of the water pressure loads, leaving the liner to remain the “stretchy” waterproof layer.

Material is supplied as flat rolls, manufactured in North America by Layfield Environmental Containment. The material is then fabricated into custom tank liners at our state-of-the-art production facility. Aquamate has adapted Layfield materials for dams and covers to suit water tanks so that you benefit from Layfield’s experience in material technology.

All liners are food grade certified to NSF/ANSI 61: Drinking Water System Components – Health Effects and come with a 20 year “No Leaks” warranty

What size water tanks are available?

Aquamate offers a wide range of metal water tanks in standard diameters and heights. The sizes are designed to standardize components within the range, provide shorter lead times, improve packing and transport. All of this allows Aquamate to provide the highest quality product at the best price to the market.

Aquamate’s steel water tank range consists of four diameters from 17’1″ to 42’8″. Aquamate’s standard height cisterns are 7’3″ tall, plus we offer a premium “space saver” range with a cistern height of 9’6″.

This combination of diameters and heights allows Aquamate to offer complete water tank range  from 12,000 gallons to over 100,000 gallons. Download our standard range flyer for additional details of what we can offer for your water storage requirement.

Can I capture water from the tank’s roof?

Yes!

Utilizing the tank’s roof to increase the catchment area is a great idea. Aquamate’s water tanks can be fitted with our innovative “Rainsaver” gutter systems that collects water from the roof and redirects it into the tank. The domed roof on an Aquamate metal water tank has dozens of channels around the perimeter of the roof that run from one side of the cistern to the other. Rainsavers are placed at the end of each channel to collect the water during rainfall events. If the tank is full, the water diverts to the overflow as it normally would.

Where can I purchase an Aquamate tank?

Aquamate water tanks are available through our network of dealers and rainwater harvesting specialists. Most of our dealers have years of experience in the design and installation of rainwater harvesting systems including tanks, piping, pumps and filters, making them ideally positioned to provide you with a complete rainwater collection solution.

If you’re not sure who the best person is to talk to about an Aquamate metal water tank in your area, you can contact us directly and we can put you in touch with one of our helpful dealers in your area.

Who installs my Aquamate water tank?

Aquamate tanks are built by certified Aquamate installers.  Although relatively straight forward, there are some parts of the installation that require a lot of care and some familiarity with how the product goes together.

Certified installers have been trained by Aquamate in the correct installation of our water tanks, which means you can be sure that they’re going to do the job properly. Using a certified installer can save a lifetime of hassle with leaking fittings, unseated liners and other little problems that can shorten the lifespan of your tank.

How long does it take to build an Aquamate water tank?

In some cases, an Aquamate metal water tank can be installed in a day. For larger tanks (in excess of 50,000 gallons), it may take a few days to complete the entire tank installation. This includes all of the valves and accessories that are provided with the storage tank.

The tank cistern and liner are delivered together, packed and inspected in our factory, with the corrugated roof sheets delivered to the jobsite either separately or with the tank pack, or can be collected from one of our roof sheet suppliers. Once the water tank base is prepared, all that’s required on site is assembly of the bolted components – no welding or painting is required on site.

What should I do if I have mosquitoes in my tank?

Aquamate tanks are relatively resistant to mosquito outbreak, as in most cases mosquitoes prefer shallow water for breeding.

If you suspect you have mosquitoes in your tank, do not add petroleum products such as kerosene (paraffin) to your water as this can shorten the lifespan of the internal lining in your tank and void your warranty.

Aquamate recommends the use of a highly specific biological pesticide that will not harm people, pets, wildlife, fish or your tank’s internal lining. Product such as Mosquito Dunks work extremely well and are available from most general hardware stores.
